Okay - think of your favorite mid-size male college ensemble. Now think of them 10-20 years after graduation - that is The Tonics sound. Featuring a group of singers with a big age range, but lots of experience and talent, The Tonics put together a very eclectic CD. They take on pop tunes ("God Shuffled His Feet," "Walking in Memphis," The River of Dreams," "You Can Call Me Al") as well as lesser-known tunes ("I Should Have Told Her" with vocal percussion), traditional songs ("A Welsh Lullaby") and jazz standards ("Slap That Bass" with old-fashioned scratchy-LP sound effects, a great vocal trumpet and VP). The group has a good sense of humor too (see Moxy Fruvous' "I Love My Boss") - the liner notes attest to that. A respectable second effort from this Pennsylvania group. (55:14 2002)
